Principal

Cleto “Sundy” Chazares was born in a small rural village in Mexico.  He graduated from Hardee Sr. High School in Wauchula, Florida in 1987.  Mr. Chazares was a track and cross country stand out in high school and received an athletic scholarship to attend St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas.  

He earned Academic All-American Honors, was a national cross-country national finalist four years in a row (a record that still stands) and served as freshman class president in the student advisory council

He was awarded his Master of Education Leadership from the University of South Florida in 1998.  

Mr. Chazares has worked at the following schools in Hillsborough County:
East Bay High School – (1993-98) Migrant Advocate
Riverview High School – (1998-2002) Human Relations Specialist & Assistant Principal
South County Career Center – (2002-present) Assistant Principal for Curriculum & Principal

Mr. “C” as students, parents and faculty know him, is driven by the thought of helping all students “turn it around”.   



  
  
Assistant Principal
Melissa Sawyer graduated from Brandon High School in 1989 and from the University of South Florida in 1993.  Mrs. Sawyer graduated cum laude with a degree in Secondary English Education.  Mrs. Sawyer taught English at Durant High School for six years and adult school at Brandon High School for two years.  Mrs. Sawyer then went back to college for her Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.  Mrs. Sawyer began teaching research classes at South County Career Center in August of 2002.  At South County Career Center, Mrs. Sawyer served as SAC Chairperson, Teen Parenting Program Director, Mentor Teacher, and Attendance Incentive Coordinator.  Mrs. Sawyer was named Assistant Principal for Curriculum at South County Career Center in August of 2006.  Mrs. Sawyer most enjoys working with students who have had to overcome many challenges and yet continue to pursue their educational goals.
